Killdeer sighted this evening; first of the year.
After an unseasonably warm weekend the first dandelion bloomed. Bald eagles, robins, and geese are on the move.
In town, I noticed apple blossoms and a blooming lilac bush. In the woods, ink cap mushrooms and violets were abundant. A few garlic mustard plants had small white flowers. Flushed an American Woodcock off the nest while searching for morels.
Of all the firsts I look forward to each year, finding the first morel mushroom tops the list. After a 2 hour search, nothing. Well, not exactly. A few individual ink cap mushrooms were up.
